Introducing the Faces of the Philippines Series.
So one of the blogs new series is the Faces of the Philippines Series.
Reason why I decided on starting this series is to showcase the rich diversity of our country and people.
We as Pilipin@s are not a homogeneous group of people. Before the Spaniards arrived we had our own communities. Even today we have our own ethnic identities and languages. Hailing from a country of 7,107 islands, majority which aren’t even inhabited, we have large number of ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. Some of us hail from the highlands of the Cordillera. Others from the plains of Mindoro. We are Kapampangan, Ivatan, Isneg, Cebuano, Ilocano, Mangyan. Sambal, Tausug, Maranao, Illongo, Waray Waray. Akeanon, Ilongot, Mandaya, Tagalog, Yakan, Aeta, Bisaya, Tagbanwa, Bikolano, Bagobo, B’laan, Pangasinan, T’boli, etc.
Many people believe that we as Pilipin@s are all one group of people, when in fact we are far from it. What I hope to do with this series is not only show people how diverse we are but also give a sense of ethnic pride to ones individual ethnic identity within the Pilipin@ diaspora. Because we aren’t just Pilipin@ and shouldn’t just push for a single identity, thus erasing our individual ethnic identities, because we are also one of the many ethnic groups which I listed above and which isn’t nearly a complete list of how many there really are.

THIS MAN’S NAME IS ZHOUZHOU AND HE IS A GIFTED CONDUCTOR, SOME EVEN CALL HIM A PRODIGY AND YOU ALL HAVE REDUCED HIS AMAZING ACCOMP[LISHMENTS TO NOTHING WITH FOOLERY LIKE THIS. YOU MADE A JOKE OF SOMETHING VERY LITTLE AVERAGE PEOPLE GO ON TO ACCOMPLISH.
I am so disgusted. So utterly disgusted.
Just an important sidenote: Zhouzhou has down’s syndrome and is considered a huge icon for disabled Chinese people. So not only is this racist but extremely ableist.

how fucking insulting this channel is
how fucking insulting
Being able to get that kind of food with EBT only looks like insanity to a person who doesn’t realize the hateful heinousness in having mentally tabulated all the foods they consider too good and too enjoyable for people who use EBT cards, because that card apparently should come with a “okay, you can stave off food insecurity but don’t you dare have one moment of enjoyment on our dime.”
Because obviously, we got all those dimes completely fairly and not at all through the very system that is responsible for a person needing EBT in the first place. Obviously.
Tuuri, a well-known salamander breeder shown here in Helsinki.
"I had to visit the apothecary here because some of my frost salamanders are sick, but the apothecary in Nurmes where I live doesn’t have fairy eggs this time of year," she says. Tuuri does assure us, however, that with some fairy eggs and thyme in them, her frost salamanders will recover.

what the heck even are these things
That’s a frilled shark! Humans rarely encounter frilled sharks, which prefer to remain in the oceans’ depths, up to 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) below the surface. Considered living fossils, frilled sharks bear many physical characteristics of ancestors who swam the seas in the time of the dinosaurs.

"I’m Chinese but I was adopted and raised by an Indian family. So I grew up speaking Tamil. I never learned to speak Chinese.
Then when I was 30, a 3rd party arranged a reunion with my birth family: I found out I had 4 brothers and a sister. After that, I always stayed in contact with my other family. My husband is Tamil and we now have children and grand-children. But my Chinese family always join us for celebrations - like Deepavali. And we also join them. We have stayed close.”
